Zoombombing has been a hot topic in the news media and has created an uneasiness with the product. However, with a few simple tweaks you can protect your Zoom session from these kinds of attacks. Using any of the options outlined below will help you to have safe, secure, and worry free Zoom meetings.

Enable Waiting Room

The first and simplest layer of added security is enabling the Waiting Room feature. This requires more work from the host, but will only allow participants to join that are specifically admitted. You can also remove any unwanted participants that may get into your meeting after it has begun.

1. In the Zoom application, select "Schedule" to schedule a meeting and select the arrow to the right of "Advanced Options."

2. Check the box next to "Enable waiting room."

To all admit students to your meeting follow the instructions below or watch the video.

    1. Click "Manage Participants" in your Zoom meeting.

    2. In the participants pane, click "Admit" next to a specific student or click "Admit All" at the top to let everyone in the waiting room in.

Lock Your Session

Once all your students have joined your meeting, you can lock the meeting and prevent anyone else from joining.

1. Click "Manage Participants" on the bottom toolbar of a Zoom meeting.

2. Select "More" in Participants pane and select "Lock Meeting."

3. Select "Yes" to confirm you want to lock the meeting.

Enable Meeting Password

You can add a password to prevent attendees without the password from joining your meeting.

1. In the Zoom application, check "Require meeting password" when scheduling your meeting and share that password with your students only.
